Scripture for the day: Proverbs 15:13,15; 17:22 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken … All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast … A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.
Thought for the day: I can think of only a few things in my life that I consistently take seriously – my relationship with my Lord, my marriage, and my … ah, let me see … hum … come to think of it, those are about it. In everything else the degree of seriousness ebbs and flows like the tide, depending on my mood, other people’s moods, the degree of difficulty involved, the weather, pebbles in my shoes, and a thousand other factors that keep me on the emotional roller coaster that we call life. Sometimes people tell me I need to take things more seriously; sometimes I try, nearly always without success. In fact, I’ve failed at taking life seriously so many times it hardly seems worth the effort any more.
Do you know there are people out there who get upset when someone takes “their” parking space? There are folks running around among us who have no sense of humor whatsoever, a malady probably caused by some as-yet undiscovered birth defect. Perhaps we could organize a telethon to raise money to have a sense of humor surgically implanted in those poor unfortunate folks. We could get some famous former comedian to participate. In the meantime, here are a few points of inspiration for you as you trudge off into what may prove to be a completely unfunny day:
I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.
If swimming is so good for your figure, how do you explain the way whales look?
Am I getting smart with you? ....If I were, how would you know?
I loathe people who keep dogs. They are cowards who haven't got the guts to bite people themselves.
Today my Reality Check bounced.
On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key.
I have not yet begun to procrastinate.
I don't suffer from stress. I'm a carrier.
There are two rules for ultimate success in life.
1. Never tell everything you know.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
Someday we'll think back on all this and ….. probably plow into a parked car.
Every dog has his day - you missed yours.
As I was looking over this list, I realized I may have already shared some of these bits of wisdom with you before. If so, I can do one of two things; I can apologize for subjecting you to them once again (which is highly unlikely) or I can simply conclude that you didn’t get it the first time and need to read them again. Since the first choice requires that I admit to having made a mistake and the second permits shifting of any responsibility from my shoulders to yours, guess which I choose?
Seriously, as you go through life today and face the many trials and challenges that will come your way, ask yourself this question: how many of these things that I’m agonizing over today will mean anything whatsoever in 100 years? – 50 years? – 20 years? – How about next June? How many of them will you carry from this earth into eternity, regardless of your destination? Lighten up – and let God lead.
Now go take on your world. - Bill
