Scripture for the day: John 19:15,16 But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!"
Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your king?"
The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"
Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus and led him away.
Thought for the day: The Hale-Bopp comet was supposed to contain a magnificent space ship in its tail. It was supposed to transport them from this burdensome planet to a place of wonderful dream-like existence. So, as the comet came closer and closer to earth, they lay in their beds at a house in California and swallowed poison, truly believing they were headed for something grand and wonderful; no amount of reason could convince them otherwise.
They teach that Jesus was once a man like any of us, born of a human mother and father, with Lucifer as a brother. They lived on a planet called Krypton and eventually came to populate the planet earth.
They exchanged the truth for a lie and honestly thought he was the Savior. They followed him from Indiana to California to a jungle in South America. On his command, hundreds of them willingly drank kool-aid laced with poison rather than defy the one who claimed to be a prophet, a god.
Jesus didn't accomplish His mission while he was here so someone had to be dispatched to complete what He failed to do. He was born in Korea and soon had one of the largest-growing false religions in the world, the Unification Church. Spouting blasphemies and lies, they have propagated their religion throughout the world, claiming their founder and leader to be the successor to Jesus, the one who would finally bring about all He failed to do.
They advance the religion that removes God from the picture all together. Man simply evolved from some amino acids that happened to get struck by lightning as they waited patiently in the primordial sea. These single cells eventually evolved and mutated into the tremendous variety of life we see on planet earth today (never mind that the laws of physics and biology both refute this 'truth').
I never cease to be amazed at the length people will go to avoid the truth of God's existence and His claim on our lives. Look at the lengths the religious leaders of Jesus’ day were willing to go. They hated the Romans as their conquerors, yet they were willing to deny Jesus as the Messiah. Despite the myriad prophesies His life had fulfilled, they were more interested in retaining spiritual and political power than in finding the truth of God's word. When confronted with His claims - He was the Son of God, He was the One spoken of by the prophets - they chose to claim the most hated man they knew, Caesar, as their king rather than submit to the Creator God of the universe, the One who had chosen them to be His own people.
I guess people haven't changed much in the past 2,000 years, have they? Religion after religion, theory after theory, are continuously advanced to claim almost anything as truth except the truth of God's word.
What about you and me? What do we really believe? Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me." Do we believe it, or are we willing to let other ideas creep in to dilute the fundamental claims of Jesus? As for me, I think I'll remain ignorant in the eyes of the world and say with the songwriter, "On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." Let's stand there together.
Now go take on your world. - Bill
